Have you ever wondered how magicians learn magic?
Now consider this: have you ever wondered how magicians learn magic well?
Like any art form - music, painting, photography, drama - magic is something that can be learned by anyone with the desire and curiosity to do so. That's right: despite what some people think, you do not need to go via exclusive magic circles and arcane rituals. There are countless magic books and lectures out there, for anyone to study and learn from. Which books or videos are suited to me, you might wonder? How can I even tell if a certain trick is advanced or for beginners? And anyway, who really knows what really makes good magic?
This is where magic tuition comes in, and I am extremely happy to be able to be able to offer these lessons. I can provide you with expert tuition, in order to help you navigate the magic literature, mentor you on sleight of hand, as well as everything about the presentation of magic: misdirection, timing, psychology, script writing, the communication with your audience, and more.
We can have a free consultation session, to get to know each other, and see what you'd like to focus on: which models of magic inspire you (which magicians, which tricks, which 'genres', etc).
After the consultation, 1-hour lessons take place weekly, or every 2 weeks, via Zoom.
Although I can tutor you in most types of magic, my specialty is in close-up magic: cards, coins and other objects.
As well as winning 1st place at the Italian National championsip of close-up magic, and 2nd place at the International magic competition (Ron McMillan's, 1998), I have 20 years experience in writing and performing in original theatre shows around the world.
I have a first class degree in Theatre from Dartington College of Arts, and I hold a PhD in Theatre studies from the University of Roehampton.
I have also taught theatre and performance for over 15 years, and since 2016 I have been working as a Lecturer in Drama at the University of Sussex, where I teach all aspects in the theory and practice of contemporary performance.
